Rappers are nothing without their “street cred,” which is why when they are “dissed” by some “fool,” they have to retaliate with bullets, fists or a sternly worded tweet. Despite this commitment to their “rep,” a few brave rap artists find it in their gold-plated hearts to publicly team up with some huge geeks. (Okay, some hip hop artists also do car commercials.) Here are the the top 8 Unlikely Nerd-Rapper Team-Ups.
8. Jay-Z and Bill Gates
The Jigga Man and the ex-windows CEO… together at last. It’s like when Jay-Z got together with Linkin Park, only with less screaming. Skip past Matthew McConaughey (good life advice ALWAYS) to see the in-studio team up at 1:27. I have a feeling cash was exchanged to make this happen.
7. Snoop Dog and Larry King
There are few people whiter, and no people older, than CNN host Larry King. But when Snoop Dog takes King out for chicken and waffles, it seems just like two dudes hanging out like normal millionaires.
6. Elvis Costello and The Beastie Boys
Who knew that the Beastie Boys would make a good Elvis Costello backing band? This is from the “SNL” 25th anniversary show.
5. Vanilla Ice and Janeane Garofalo, Chris Kattan and Jon Stewart
Dennis Leary is here too, but he doesn’t count as a geek because he smokes and that makes him cool. If you’ve ever wanted to see Chris Kattan scared of a beefy has-been with a baseball bat, this is a clip for you.
4. Sexman and 50 Cent
We’re looking around the room for our brains right now, cause this video has BLOWN OUR MINDS. Why would 50 Cent agree to be in a video with Pruane2Forever, AKA Sexman? Surely, there was no financial incentive to be seen with a pubescent minor YouTube star. Perhaps Fiddy genuinely enjoys Sexman’s movie reviews? On the plus side, this is the first time Sexman has hung out with someone who has been shot or had sex.
3. Dan Aykroyd with Digital Underground amd Tupac
Remember the movie “Nothing But Trouble?” If you do, we’re sorry. The movie is awful. But it is notable for the first (and only!) on screen pairing of Dan Aykroyd and Tupac Shakur, who was then with Digital Underground.
The LAPD will never tell you this, but this movie is the reason that Tupac was killed.
2. Phil Collins and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Yep, this happened. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in a duet with Phil Collins, in a cover of Collins’ “Take Me Home.” We might actually prefer this version.
Our favorite is Krayzie Bone. He’s so crazy (and bony)!
1. Soulja Boy and the video gamers of the world
Besides being am intolerable rapper, Soulja Boy is an avid gamer and YouTube user. And, he wants to play you!
“Crank That” is one of the worst songs in the history of recorded sound, but knowing the racist, homophobic cesspool that is the Xbox live (especially “Halo 3″) community, we’re rooting for Soulja Boy. Superman them hoes!
