10 They Might Be Giants Songs About Science (Most Of Which Are Not Educational)

Thursday September 10, 2009 11:00 AM

Nerd rock elder statesmen They Might Be Giants have recently released their 14th studio album – a kid’s album called “Science Is Real.” These guys are no strangers to “educational” songs. Some of TMBG’s funniest music comes from riffing on historical figures like James K. Polk and explaining how the sun works. So in honor of their new album, here are 10 They Might Be Giants songs about science, though you won’t be hearing a lot of these in the classroom.

10. “Science Is Real
TMBG is all like, “Evolution is real, kids”  Some parents are gonna be like, “What-evah.”

9. “Why Does The Sun Shine?
That’s a good question, but can it be answered in song-form?

8. “Mammal
Koalas are pretty sweet. Humans are cool too, we suppose.

7. “Destination Moon
There sure are a lot of steps in order to get to the f***ing moon!

6. “Robot Parade
Creepy, creepy, creepy…

5. “Bloodmobile
Yeah, this isn’t happening inside of us. That would be gross.

4. “S-E-X-X-Y
How many X chromosomes does this lady have?

3. “The Elements
Oh man, there are so many elements. We have so little patience for elements.

2. “Older
This is how time works. Damn it!

1. “Particle Man
It may not be science per se, but Particle Man kicks some serious ass. Actually, he gets his ass kicked.  Poor Particle Man.

Bonus: “Apollo 18″ Promo Video
This promotional video from ‘92 for their album “Apollo 18″ mimics those old school science film strips that have long since been replaced by neuro-brain plug learnotizers.
