Each week Comedy.com publishes “The Comic Round Up.” We check out what’s happening each Wednesday in the world of comics. Because as every fanboy knows, Wednesday is the day the comic book store gets new comics! Read this before you get your fix as we scour the comic pages for the best and not-so-best of the lot.
If you would like to pay for that same issue of Archie you bought 20 years ago, Betty and Veronica Digest #197 is out along with Veronica #196. We haven’t read it in years, so we assume she must be fighting a big villain, like the Juggernaut or Gorilla Grodd.
If you can’t get enough of Pixar, Boom! Studios has the Cars’ comic, Cars: Radiator Springs #1. Sadly, it is not about Ric Ocasek and contains no pictures of his hot wife.
Dark Horse continues to churn out stuff for Buffy fans who don’t have DVD players, Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 (Season Eight) is out this week. Star Wars: Invasion #3 of 5 sounds much better and, unlike the recent movies, features Luke Skywalker in new stories and no f*cking Jar-Jar.

DC continues to p*ss off Alan Moore by issuing Absolute V for Vendetta. (He would get the rights back if they would stop publishing it.) Judd Winick (former “Real World” star and creator of Barry Ween) is writing Batman #690, so no doubt several villains will be moving into the Batcave to spice up the drama. If you like antique superheroes, Red Tornado #1 of 6 is coming out. Gee, only six, DC? Grandpa will be crushed. Their Vertigo imprint is publishing something called Sweet Tooth #1, which looks kind of cool and like Paris Hilton, is cheap and easily yours for a buck.
Although it looks totally retarded, we laughed at the cover for Barack the Barbarian #2 of 4 from Devil’s Due. Maybe if he had a sword in real life, we would all get health care.

Dynamite Entertainment continues to publish collectible b*llsh*t and great stuff like the Boys #34 from Garth Ennis. If you like comics and hate superheroes, this is like great shot of whiskey. If you’re a prissy fanboy purist that adores the capes, it would be like taking a p*ss on your comic book collection and then eating it.
The great John Ostrander and the amazing Tim Truman are back on Grimjack at IDW, Grimjack Manx Cat #2 is out. We would buy you all copies if we could, fanboys. Our love of Grimjack knows no bounds. We’d kill for you, Grimjack, just say the word.
Over at Image, one of their most awesome new series hits stores again, Chew #4. It’s about a detective with the power to get information from whatever he eats. No doubt an evil Iron Chef is in his future. Fallout Toy Works #1, based on the lyrics to a Fallout Boy song, also arrives. No one introduce Image comics to Britney Spears, we don’t want to read Oops!…I Did It Again #1 or Baby One More Time vs. The Incredible Hulk.
From our friends, Singletary-Murphy-Hobson comes the most awesome, The Two Percent Solution #2. It’s about the end of the world (no, not Disney buying Marvel) and two guys trying to figure out what happened while drinking way too much Red Bull.

Over at Marvel Comics, where someone thinks it’s the 1940s, comes Daring Mystery Comics #1, 70th Anniversary Special. Marvel Zombies Return #1, sadly, returns to stores. No doubt this held up publication of Beating a Dead Horse #1. And speaking of dead, Human Torch #1 of 8 comes out. What are we, Marvel, 100?! Can you not publish superheroes from this century please?!
Random House is releasing three Spy vs. Spy trades because there are so many unanswered questions in the first two. Seriously, we miss Spy vs. Spy since the geniuses over at Mad decided to make the strips in color.
And finally, VIZ published a whole bunch of Manga this month, but since we’re not 13-year-old girls, we have no idea if its any good.
Posted by Tony DiGerolamo, who would like to see more evil Iron Chefs in comics.
