The geek world’s webcomic du jour, XKCD, recently reminded us of a time before cable internet, when viewing online porn was nothing short of a challenge. This is all true, even the blocky sex part. I keep wanting my partner to suddenly go stiff and say “buffering…”

Bandwidth wasn’t our only issue. Online porn was hard to find, because we were still using less-thorough search engines like Altavista, and we didn’t have free-for-all user generated video porn sites like RedTube. In those days, you had to find password sites, which gave you passwords to commercial porn sites, but often the passwords didn’t work because too many different IP addresses had used them. Many nights were spent settling on spelling-mistake ridden text porn. Those truly were… the dark ages.
